Hold on Folks, It's time for Moon Bombing!!

At last, NASA has launched a mission to bomb the moon. It's not to destroy it, but to unearth the traces of water if any.
The aim of this mission is to bomb the lunar surface and to test the cloud of debris for the traces of water. The mission is called LCROSS mission which stands for Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite. An Atlas V rocket is sent along with another spacecraft which is called Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.  It's enough of scientific things now!!

Moon is mostly a dry airless desert. Scientists have believed for long time that there might be traces of water in moon. If so, it will be helpful for manned moon base. But the concept behind the mission LCROSS is very simple. If we hit an ice glacier with a missile which travels twice as fast as bullet, it will blast a hole. If we analyze the debris, which would be coming out of lunar surface after this bombing, we can conclude the presence of water from it. For analyzing the debris, there is a shepherd aircraft which would be sent along with this missile.

But it needs tremendous efforts to implement a simple concept in space. Hats off to NASA for it!!
